Katsina
State governor, Aminu Bello Masari, has declared that his
administration will not continue with the payment of WAEC, NECO and
NABTEB fees for final year students of secondary schools in the state.
Speaking
at Sada Primary School in Kankia town, during the Enrolment Drive
Campaign, Masari said his administration would not sustain the payment
of the examination fees, adding that the payment had not yielded the
desired result.
“You pay exam fees for a student who spends four years at home not attending school only to come and sit for the examination”, Masari said, adding that he is aware of some staff who are trying to instigate students to protest against the planned suspension.
Governor Masari who said his administration is committed to enhancing education in the state, added that Girl-child education is second to none because it contributes immensely to sound upbringing of children.
He noted that his administration is out for change and is not unmindful of the fact that the ox of some persons may be gored.
Our correspondent reports that the immediate past administration of former governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema had introduced the policy of paying examination fees for students taking WAEC, NECO and NABTEB and it sustained the policy which was widely viewed as a relief to parents.
However, upon assuming office, Governor Masari hit hard at the policy, insisting that it has not yielded the desired result as statistics of WAEC and even NECO results for students in the state indicated poor performances.
