Eastern Obolo My Sweet Home

 Nigeria, Obolo     1 comment

Written By Hurillia Efet Douglas
Eastern obolo is indeed a place I can call "Home Sweet Home". Eastern Obolo is a local Government in Akwa Ibom state. It is a place where you can't describe without mentioning the Atlantic Ocean. This Ocean has served as a means of employment to about 50% of the Obolo people living in the Island called Elekpon (Body of Sands).

Other Prominent places in Eastern Obolo local government includes:

Okoroete Town

The BABA of Eastern Obolo is Okoroete no wonder the headquarter is sited there. Okoroete is my home town and I must say that development is more rapid than i ever imagined. Okoroete has gotten Cottage Hospital, Council Seretariat, Obolo Multi-Purpose Hall, Security Villa, 50 Housing Unit and Motoroble road from Ewe (Market) to Ibot Mbeng (Water-Side) in Ayama. We hope for more.

Eastern Obolo

Okorombokho Town

Okorombokho is usuallly more interesting during end of the year festival and cultural display. Have witness them play NWATAM (Masquerade) and trust the Okorombokho people, they know how to do it well.

Okoroiti Okoroete

There is Okoroiti 1 and Okoroiti 2. Okoroiti II is basically dominated by the members of the Samuel Spiritual Church.

Elekpon Okoroete (Mother of Eastern Obolo)

This is fondly called Inyon Elekpon (Sea Shore). This is where the proper fishing activities is really going on. My Grand Dad has fished in this Island for over 50 years now and I must confess, we don't lack fresh stuffs in our fridge.
I really love Elekpon because I would even swim and have red eyes in the river. Above all, I really love eating roasted fishes (barbeque).

Agassa

Agasa is a nice area, majority of the Yorubas in Eastern Obolo have made this industrious Island a safe home for themselves and their families.

Iko Town

Iko people are well known for the Ugele Mkpa cultural play. There is no good Seconder. They naturally endowned with several schools both Private and Public Schools.
See List of Private Universities in Nigeria and their School Fees
They have good Clinic and motorable roads that emanated from Ikot Akpaden (Mkpat Enin)
to Iko round about.

Ibot Amazaba (7 Villages)

Ibot Amaza, a one time pillar town in Eastern Obolo has been shut down due to Land Crisis. I hope and pray God to restore back our home (Amazaba)

Emereoke

This is the Bonny Island of the Eastern Obolo People. This Island is endowed with prominent political officials. I think it is the Voice of the Okwan-Okwan people.

Kampa

I really enjoyed my last visit to Kampa where I went for the Anglican Youth Conference. We boarded Uzi Uti melek Engine (Boat made of Stick with a marin Engine). It was a nice trip. It is a memorable one...

Atabrikan

Atabrikan is just next to Iko Town. They share the same boundery.

Otu-Awaji (Ama Ukotitap)

My grand father is the head chief in this great community. We receive excess coconut harvest from this place last year than never before. It is a nice Island and the sure hope of Elekpon Okoroete should the Atlantic Ocean eats up the Inyong Elekpong.
Others includes: Okoroinyong, Otunene. The list is really much, so lemme stop here.

NB: The combination of Okoroiti, Okorombhokho and Okoroete is what the Eastern Obolo people refer to as Okoromita.
This I guess is the reason the famous Secondary School in Okoromita is named "Okoromita Comprehensive Secondary (MITACO)". My father in the person of  Mr. Efet Douglas Efet is an alumnus of this great school. No wonder He repeatedly tell me that Okoromita is His Alma mata.
